Using Discount Codes to Save Money Online
The internet often offers us better prices than the high street does today. For one thing many of these online stores don’t have the overheads that shops on the high street do, they employ less staff and need space only to store items not to display them. This means that we can save money by shopping around on the internet which in today’s financial climate is a big deal.
Another additional way to save money is by using coupons. Online coupon codes work in much the same way as the ones you’d hand to a cashier in the store. They save you money on a product you’re buying or on the overall purchase price of your goods, or they offer you something extra as a sweetener when you make your purchase.
With supermarkets such as Tesco for example, their Tesco vouchers often come in the form of free delivery codes, or money off your overall purchase like £5 off when you spend £50. They do occasionally offer other deals such as a free pint of milk when you buy a loaf of bread, but less frequently. As a general rule, supermarkets know that you’re likely to buy at least one weeks worth of shopping in one go and that this is the best sort of code for them to offer you.
Other companies offer codes that work differently. For example if you were buying a mobile phone from Vodafone’s online store you might find that a useful Vodafone promotional code would give you a free broadband dongle with any phone over a certain price, or 3 months half price on any 24 month long contract. These discount codes are applied in the same way as the ones for Tesco – i.e. you put in the discount code number at the online till when you make your purchase – but they offer something that is relevant to buying a mobile phone rather than just a fixed amount off. This can make it slightly harder to work out which deal is best, but can still make using these codes a useful tool when trying to save money.
Where ever you’re doing your shopping online, and whatever it is that you’re buying, it’s worth while looking for voucher codes for that product or store to see if you can make an extra saving on your purchase. Sometimes it can even mean that the cheapest store isn’t the cheapest because someone else who sells the product for fractionally more is offering a money off code that brings it in cheaper in the end.

Good post. There certainly are many ways to save money online and a new website/forum/offer seems to spring up every day.
It’s also worth taking some time to check the fine print of vouchers and discount schemes.
Luckily, many companies are realising that there needs to be some interaction with their customers and channels are being created for feedback and questions such as this one:
